Meeting Minutes, April 16th, 2005
The April 16, 2005 OKCAA meeting was held at the Oklahoma City Zoo in the Education Building at 2:00 pm. This month's topic was Native Fishes of Oklahoma lectured by Gerald Griffin. To sum up Gerald's lecture, Oklahoma has a lot of native fish. There are over 175 species that can be found in many types of water. To mention a few are Petromyzonidae (Lampreys), Acipenseridae (Sturgeons), Polyodontidae (Paddlefish), Lepisosteidae (Gars), Amiidae (Bowfins), Anguillidae (Eels), Clupeidae (Shads), Hiodontidae (Mooneyes), Salmonidae (Trouts), Esocidae (Pikes), Characidae (Tetras), Cyprinidae (Stonerollers), Cyprinidae (Carps), Catomtomidae (Suckers), Ictaluridae (Catfishes), Aphredoderidae (Pirate Perch), Cyprinodontidae (Pupfish), Fundulidae (Top minnows), Poeciliidae (Mosquito fish), Amblyopsidae (Cave fish), Atherinidae (Silverside), Cottidae (Sculpins), Percichthydae (Temperate Basses), Elassomatidae (Pygmy Sunfish), Centrarchidae (Sunfish & Bass), Percidae (Darters), Percidae (Perches), Sciaenidae (Drums) and last but not least Mugulidae (Mullets).
