Meeting Minutes, April 16th, 2005

The April 16, 2005 OKCAA meeting was held at the Oklahoma City Zoo in the Education Building at 2:00 pm.

This month's topic was Native Fishes of Oklahoma lectured by Gerald Griffin. To sum up Gerald's lecture, Oklahoma has a lot of native fish. There are over 175 species that can be found in many types of water. To mention a few are Petromyzonidae (Lampreys), Acipenseridae (Sturgeons), Polyodontidae (Paddlefish), Lepisosteidae (Gars), Amiidae (Bowfins), Anguillidae (Eels), Clupeidae (Shads), Hiodontidae (Mooneyes), Salmonidae (Trouts), Esocidae (Pikes), Characidae (Tetras), Cyprinidae (Stonerollers), Cyprinidae (Carps), Catomtomidae (Suckers), Ictaluridae (Catfishes), Aphredoderidae (Pirate Perch), Cyprinodontidae (Pupfish), Fundulidae (Top minnows), Poeciliidae (Mosquito fish), Amblyopsidae (Cave fish), Atherinidae (Silverside), Cottidae (Sculpins), Percichthydae (Temperate Basses), Elassomatidae (Pygmy Sunfish), Centrarchidae (Sunfish & Bass), Percidae (Darters), Percidae (Perches), Sciaenidae (Drums) and last but not least Mugulidae (Mullets).

  • Najas grass went to Earl for $1
  • Najas grass went to Cynthia for $1
  • 8 Red Cherry shrimp went to Joe for $4
  • 6 Dwarf Sunset platys went to Bryan for $1
  • 6 Platy went to Kyle for $1

Don't forget to plan for a Native Fish Collecting on July 30, 2005.

Next meeting will be on May 21, 2005 at the Oklahoma City Zoo at 2:00 pm.
