Meeting Minutes, February 19th, 2005
The February 19, 2005 OKCAA meeting was held at the Oklahoma City Zoo in the Oklahoma City Zoo Education Building at 2:00 pm. First on the agenda was a lecture on Saltwater for Dummies by Joe Anderson and assisted by Lee Morey and Tom Pepper. It definitely was a basic step by step "how to start a salt water tank". Joe recommended a book called The Marine Aquarium Reference by Martin A. Moe. It lists parameter, salinity, temperature, lighting, etc. To start a saltwater tank you will need equipment such as a hydrometer, test kits, other tank kits, filters, a heater, lighting, and a skimmer if that is your choice. A skimmer will among other things keep your tank water crystal clear. The type of lighting is a key of importance not to mention the quantity of lighting. Lights should not be on for more then 10 hours a day and no less then 6. Consistency in lighting also helps a tank be healthier. Tank maintenance is also very important to keep a healthy tank. Cleaning the glass, equipment and substrate should be done on a weekly basis. The amount of water changes is determined by the stocking levels you have in your tank. Auction:
Next meeting will be on March 19, 2005 at the home of Richard Atwood at 6:00 p.m. The topic will be on Lake Tanganyika and its fish. Please feel free to bring any food or beverages. Hope to see you there. Secretary
