Oklahoma Aquarium Association
Meeting Minutes, June 19th, 2004

Hello Everybody:

Our last meeting gave us another wonderful tour of Joe's tanks-IMO, they're great. Joe also gave us a great presentation about aquascaping.

There are several main points you should keep in mind when aquascaping:

Elements

  • The golden mean (spatial ratios of 1:1.68)
  • Triangles and Diagonals (use them to frame areas of the tank)
  • SanZom-Iwagumi--suggested using odd numbers
  • Linear movement--get the eye wander through the tank
  • Focal points--direct the eye in where to go

Objects: natural driftwood, rocks, plastic, skeletons (creepy!), backgrounds

Balance: teritories, hiding spots and breeding locales

Styles

  • Duth--rows/diagonals
  • Amanao--create an impression
  • Biotope--recreate a piece of the wild
  • Artificial--anything not listed above

Materials: rubber bands, staples, ties, string, PVC for rock structures, glues and epoxies, drill holes in live rock, toothpicks and plastic mesh

It was a great presentation--see you all at the next meeting.
