Meeting Minutes, May 15th, 2004
May 15th 2004
In the absence of our club's Secty Dean Hougen, I put together a brief outline of what occured at this month's meeting for those that could not attend. Brian Carson presented a powerpoint presentation prepared by Gerald Griffin over Live Bearing Fishes. There were many slides of great detail and the entire show will actually be made available on the club's website very shortly (along with one or two other recent presentations as well!). Gerald and Brian did an excellent job categorizing each of the Five different types of live bearing fishes and breaking each section down into their Genus and species categories. It was rather entertaining listening to Brian pronounce all the different species Gerald had listed! I was just glad it wasn't me that had to do it! Brian also introduces some good literature on livebearers that would be beneficial to identifying them. The turnout was modest, with several regularly attending members not present. However we did have three guests (one arriving at the end of the meeting though) and one returning new member from last month, Tim Henry. We had no auction but there was some trading of fish and plants in the parking lot afterward. Brian also mentioned that there had been some agreement on a date for the next native fish collecting trip being set for the weekend after Memorial Day weekend (Saturday June 5th or Sunday June 6th). This topic will need more clarification and will be addressed in this forum shortly I suspect. Overall, things went well and we planned to meet again next month - June 19th, at my home (Joe Anderson - address/directions forthcoming) for the regular home meeting where we will participate in a "hand's on" presentation involving the creation of clay fertilizer balls for planted aquariums and also observe the proper methods of "fragging" corals for propogation. This will be a two-part presentation and will begin later in day; 6-9PM. I also hope to have my pool open by then and will welcome everyone and their families to come and enjoy (what hopefully will be a nice day!). Joe Anderson, President 2004
