Female C. saxitilis guarding a clutch of fry under a patch of Anubius nana. They are situated just outside of the rock cave.
True Crenicichla saxitilis in courtship display. The male positions himself under the female and will quickly slide back and forth. Notice that the female has a dark mid section at this point.
Female C. saxitilis in spawning colors. Very similar coloration to West African kribs and a sure sign that egg laying is imminent. This is also a good pic of one of the species identifying features, a white-ringed, black opercular spot.
Young male Neolamprologus olivaceous. The two chevron marks on/near the gill plate identifies this species as belonging to the pulcher complex.
Another pic of a young male N. olivaceous.
Another pic of C. saxitilis in courtship. This time the female is showing egg laying colors and the male is still sliding back and forth below the female.
